Emergency Medicine Residency
Thank you for visiting the East Carolina University/ECU Health Medical Center Emergency Medicine Residency Program website. The residency program has been training highly competent emergency physicians for over 30 years, producing clinical and academic leaders in Emergency Medicine. We believe that we have a very challenging clinical environment in which to train, and have developed a structured and comprehensive curriculum to optimize your individual success in completing residency.
Our emergency department has an annual census of about 120,000 visits, serving about 1.4 million people from the large geographic area of eastern North Carolina, spanning 29 counties, with many of these counties having relatively few healthcare resources. The following are some of the features about our facility:
- 58 bed main Emergency Department, with 8 additional bed psychiatric observation area
- 16 bed Pediatric Emergency Department
- One of the busiest PCI centers in the state
- The only Level I trauma center in the catchment area
- Designated Stroke Center
Greenville offers a refreshing contrast to our bustling emergency medicine training program. Greenville is a warm, friendly city of just over 87,000 people, with East Carolina University as one of the prominent features of the area. Activities year round include sports, camping, hiking, fishing, a vibrant arts community, and legendary barbeque! Greenville offers a more resident-friendly cost of living relative to many other cities, with far fewer hassles associated with more urban areas.
While there are many excellent EM programs around the country, we feel there are numerous advantages to training in Emergency Medicine with us. We invite you to review the rest of the website to find out more information about our EM residency program. Please feel free to contact us if you have any other questions about us.
It’s an exciting time to be a part of ECU Emergency Medicine!
